Gran Canaria – Excursions to the island capital – Part 3
As promised, the third part of the excursion tips in and around the island’s capital Las Palmas now follows. If you have enough time, you can do this excursion after a visit to the Casa de Colon or Museo Elder. In the Jardin Botanico Canario you can relax wonderfully and find a beautifully landscaped botanical garden.
To do this, we leave Las Palmas and drive the GC-110 in the south / southwest direction. At about kilometer 7 there is the parking lot on the right-hand side, from which you can enter the park “from above”. If you want to strengthen yourself beforehand, you can take a little strengthening in the Restaurante Jardin Canario. From there you have a wonderful view of the valley. We decided not to have something to eat because we had eaten something in Las Palmas after our visit to the Elder Museum.
Alternatively, you can enter the botanical garden directly “from below” by following the GC-310. However, there is probably no direct parking lot there, you have to park on the roadside

The Jardin Botianco Canario is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. In contrast to many other botanical gardens, this one is partly laid out vertically on a mountain slope. If you follow the serpentine paths down, you can marvel at the impressive variety of flora. Many endemic species, which means, those that only grow on the Canary Islands, can be found here. These include the Canarian pine, laurel trees and of course the dragon tree.
The approximately 27 hectare park was laid out in 1952 by the Swedish scientist Eric Sventenius. This makes it the largest botanical garden in Spain and certainly one of the most beautiful.
Unfortunately, the pictures can only show a fraction of the beauty of the park, but I think they speak for themselves.
