Mirador del Rio – A beautiful view over La Graciosa

When you have visited La Graciosa and you still have some time, I definitely recommend also the Mirador del Rio.

Wait, Mirador del Rio? Rio is Spanish for river and you were told there are no rivers on Lanzarote. Why should there be a lookout to a river? Well, if you have read my article about La Graciosa then you might have heard, that the passage between Lanzarote and La Graciose is called Rio, because the Atlantic is very smooth here, like you were on a river.

The way to the Mirador is easy to find, you will see enough signs on the roads to find it. The roads are not too narrow, so it is very easy and relaxing to get there.

We could see the building already from the ferry to La Graciosa. With a good camera and good some you can get pictures with a good resolution of the building even from down there. I believe you can guess who designed and built this building – Cesar Manrique. You have two levels here where you can enjoy the beautiful view to the north. There is a cafe where you can sit inside and enjoy the view, but I recommend to get out and feel the cool wind blowing into your face. From up here, 400 m above sea level, you have a beautiful view over La Graciosa and some smaller uninhabited islands like Isla de Montaña Clara or Isla de Alegranza. And, of course, there is also a souvenir shop up here, where you can buy stuff and bring it home to your loved ones.
